Town to Mountain Express
The best Colorado airport for your vacation depends on where you are staying, the flights available on your dates and the ground journey after landing. Denver International Airport can be a practical starting point for a city visit or a multi-destination trip. A regional airport closer to your resort may reduce the drive, but compare connections, schedules and the complete cost before deciding.
This guide helps you compare airports for Denver, Vail, Beaver Creek, Aspen, Snowmass, Steamboat Springs, Colorado Springs, Crested Butte and Telluride. It also explains private-aviation arrivals and what to send when arranging transportation with Town to Mountain Express.
Quick answer: start with DEN for broad flight choices and Denver-area stays; compare EGE for Vail and Beaver Creek, ASE for Aspen and Snowmass, HDN for Steamboat, COS for Colorado Springs, GUC for Crested Butte, and MTJ or TEX for Telluride. The right choice depends on your actual itinerary, not the airport name alone.

When Denver International Airport makes sense
DEN is worth comparing when your trip includes Denver hotels, business appointments, several Colorado destinations or flights from an origin with more convenient Denver service. Check the airport’s official nonstop destination information against the airline’s schedule for your dates.
A convenient flight can still leave a substantial ground journey to a mountain resort. Compare landing time, baggage collection, hotel check-in and the return trip before purchasing airfare. If you plan to stay in Denver first, build that hotel stop into the transportation request.
For arrival and departure planning, visit our Denver Airport transportation page. Share the exact lodging address, passenger count and luggage rather than just asking for a ride to “the mountains.”
Vail and Beaver Creek: compare DEN with Eagle County
Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) is an airport option to compare for Vail, Beaver Creek and nearby Eagle County lodging. The airport is in Gypsum, rather than in Vail itself. Review its official airline and destination information for your travel period.
Compare a workable EGE itinerary with a workable DEN itinerary. Look at the number of connections, arrival and departure times, checked-bag costs and the private ground-transfer quote for each option. A shorter road journey may be attractive, but the best overall trip depends on the flights you can actually book.
Explore Eagle Airport transportation for EGE requests. If you choose Denver, use our Denver–Vail and Denver–Beaver Creek route pages.
Aspen and Snowmass: compare ASE with Denver
Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) is close to Aspen and Snowmass; the airport lists it as three miles from downtown Aspen and six miles from Snowmass Village. Its official ground-transportation information helps clarify the location.
Aspen airfare and connection options should be compared with the much longer ground trip from Denver. Do not book a late arrival followed by an unrealistic resort schedule. Check airline change policies and decide how you will communicate if a flight is delayed or the arrival airport changes.
One important winter detail: Independence Pass closes seasonally. CDOT directs winter Denver-to-Aspen traffic via I-70 to Glenwood Springs and then CO 82 toward Aspen. Check CDOT’s Independence Pass information rather than assuming a summer map shortcut is available.
For a Denver arrival, explore our Denver–Aspen route and Denver–Snowmass route. These are Denver-origin route pages; an ASE pickup needs its own confirmed reservation.
Steamboat Springs: Hayden is the airport location
Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN) is in Hayden and serves the Steamboat Springs area. The names Hayden, Yampa Valley and Steamboat may appear together in flight searches, so verify the airport code on your booking. Use the airport’s official website to check current travel information.
HDN deserves comparison when your stay centers on Steamboat. DEN may suit other flight schedules or a trip that includes Denver, but the drive to Steamboat is a separate part of the travel day. Compare both complete itineraries, not just the time spent in the air.
Provide the airport code and exact lodging address when requesting a pickup. Our Denver–Steamboat transportation page covers Denver-origin travel; ask separately about an HDN transfer and its availability.
Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain and Winter Park
Start by comparing DEN flights for these destinations, then confirm the ground plan for your resort. A regional airport may appear in a broader flight search, but choosing a smaller airport does not automatically make it the most practical starting point for every Colorado ski area.
The lodging location matters: a resort name can cover hotels, condominiums, private homes and separate villages. Include ski equipment, the final address and any intermediate stops when requesting transportation. If you arrive before check-in, decide where you need to go with your bags.
Review the Colorado ski resort transportation hub for destination links, including Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain and Winter Park.
Colorado Springs, Crested Butte and Telluride
For Colorado Springs lodging, compare COS with DEN using both airfare and the onward trip. Visit the official destination organization’s airport guide for airport information, and our Denver–Colorado Springs page if arriving in Denver.
For Crested Butte, include Gunnison–Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC) in your comparison. Check the county airport website and plan the onward journey to the resort. If choosing DEN, review Denver–Crested Butte transportation.
For Telluride, compare Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ) with Telluride Regional Airport (TEX). Their locations and flight choices differ. Denver is another option, but it involves a long-distance ground itinerary; our Denver–Telluride route page explains that request.
These are airport-selection examples, not promises of a local T2M pickup at every regional airport. Confirm the requested airport, vehicle, date and route before committing to a transportation arrangement.
Private aviation: APA, BJC and RIL require precise pickup details
Centennial Airport (APA) is a general-aviation airport, not a substitute for DEN in a standard scheduled-airline search. Its official airport information explains its role. For a private flight, specify the FBO and the destination, whether that is the Denver Tech Center, a hotel or another address.
Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (BJC) is in Broomfield; see Jefferson County’s airport information. Rifle-area arrivals should identify Rifle Garfield County Airport (RIL). Airport and aircraft details matter more than a general “private jet pickup” request.
Use our Centennial and Broomfield airport pages where relevant. Share the aircraft arrival time, FBO, passenger contact, bags and any changes from the flight operator.
Compare the total trip cost and build a winter backup plan
Compare flight price, baggage fees, connection time, ground transportation for the full party and the return transfer. A lower airfare can be offset by a longer ground journey; a closer airport can be offset by an inconvenient connection. There is no airport that is always cheapest or fastest for every traveler.
Check how late arrival would affect your hotel stay and scheduled activities. Keep the transportation contact informed of revised flights or a changed airport. A diversion does not automatically move your original car reservation to another airport: the new route, vehicle and availability must be reviewed.
Weather can affect flights and roads at both large and smaller airports. Use COtrip for current road conditions and your airline for flight updates. Build time into the return journey; do not treat a map estimate as a guaranteed winter travel time.
Arrange private transportation with Town to Mountain Express
Once the flights are settled, share your arrival airport code, flight number, date, mobile contact, destination and return details. List all passengers, suitcases, ski bags, strollers and child-seat needs. The suitable vehicle depends on both people and belongings.
Town to Mountain Express reviews private airport transportation requests in sedans, SUVs and passenger vans, subject to confirmed availability. Start with our airport transportation hub, or explore the hotel transportation collection if you are planning the lodging portion of your visit.
Reserve the arrival and departure segments together when possible, review the included stops and confirm the reservation details. Advance planning lets you compare the actual flight-and-ground combination before the travel day.
Colorado Airport Planning FAQs
Which Colorado airport should I fly into for a ski vacation?
Compare the airport with your resort and available flights: DEN for many Colorado itineraries, EGE for Vail and Beaver Creek, ASE for Aspen and Snowmass, HDN for Steamboat, and GUC for Crested Butte. Consider connections, total ground cost and return timing.
Are DEN and DIA the same airport?
Yes. DEN is the airport code for Denver International Airport; DIA is a commonly used abbreviation. Use DEN and your flight number when arranging transportation.
Is Eagle County Airport actually in Vail?
No. Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) is in Gypsum. It is an airport option for Vail, Beaver Creek and nearby destinations, with ground transportation still required to your lodging.
Which airport serves Aspen and Snowmass?
Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) is the local airport option. DEN is another arrival choice, but requires a much longer ground journey. Compare the complete flight itinerary and confirmed transportation plan.
Is the Steamboat airport in Hayden?
Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN) is in Hayden and serves the Steamboat Springs area. Confirm HDN on your flight booking and provide the actual hotel or resort address for the ground transfer.
Should I fly into Denver or Colorado Springs?
Compare DEN and COS for your travel dates, final lodging address, connection options and ground-transfer cost. The best choice depends on the complete itinerary rather than airfare alone.
Can I use Independence Pass to drive to Aspen in winter?
Independence Pass closes seasonally. Check CDOT and COtrip for current status. During the winter closure, Denver-to-Aspen travel uses the I-70 and Glenwood Springs approach to CO 82 rather than the closed pass.
Can Centennial Airport replace Denver Airport for my airline flight?
Centennial Airport (APA) is a general-aviation airport. It is relevant to private and other general-aviation arrivals, not a substitute for DEN in a standard scheduled-airline booking.
Does choosing a regional airport guarantee a cheaper trip?
No. Compare airfare, baggage costs, connections, private ground transportation for your group and the return journey. A shorter drive alone does not establish the lowest total trip cost.
How do I request Colorado airport transportation from Town to Mountain Express?
Use Book Now or call 303-763-0043 with the airport code, flights, dates, addresses, passenger count and luggage. Include the FBO for private aviation. The requested airport, vehicle and route must be confirmed for availability.
